How to Package Diabetic Supplies for a Buyback Pickup

Getting your diabetic supplies ready for a buyback is mostly about not undoing the value that is already there. A sealed box in good shape is worth full price; a box that got crushed, opened, or picked at on the way to the meetup is worth less. The goal is simple: keep everything the way it came, group it so it is easy to quote, and send a photo before you do anything else. Here is the order I would do it in.
Send a photo before you touch anything
Before you sort, stack, or peel a single thing, text a photo of what you have to (617) 702-2220. A picture of the box fronts and the expiration dates is enough for a quote, and it usually comes back within about 60 minutes during business hours. Doing this first means I can tell you what qualifies and what does not before you spend any effort getting it ready.
Keep every box sealed and intact
The factory seal is what makes a box sellable. Do not open anything to check or count — the count is printed on the box, and an opened box cannot be bought. Keep boxes in their original packaging. The supplies inside need no handling at all; your job is just to protect the box around them.
Group by brand and date
If you have a mix, set boxes into small groups by brand — OneTouch with OneTouch, Dexcom with Dexcom, and so on — and rough-sort each group by expiration date. You do not have to be precise about it. Grouping just makes the meetup fast and makes it easy to confirm the quote against what is in front of us. If sorting is a hassle, skip it and bring everything; the photo already told us what to expect.
Protect the boxes on the way over
- Stack boxes flat in a bag or bin so the corners do not get crushed.
- Keep them out of a hot car — set them on a seat, not on the dash or in the trunk in the sun.
- Keep them dry; no loose water bottles rolling around in the same bag.
- Do not bundle them with tape or rubber bands directly on the boxes, which can mark the packaging.
At the meetup
We meet locally across Worcester County and about 25 miles out, usually same day. Bring the boxes as photographed. I check the seals and expiration dates against the quote, and if the boxes match, you get paid on the spot — cash, Cash App, or Venmo, your call. No re-grading and no surprises: the number from the photo is the number you leave with.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to clean or wipe down the boxes before selling?
A quick dusting is fine, but do not use any liquid or cleaner on the packaging. Moisture on the box is a problem, not a fix. If a box is clean and dry already, leave it as is and just keep it that way until the meetup.
Should I take the strips out and count them?
No. Keep every box sealed. The count is printed on the box, and opening it to count makes it unsellable. If you are unsure how many you have, the box quantities and a photo are all I need to put a number together.
What is the best way to carry a large surplus?
A sturdy tote or bin with the boxes stacked flat works best, with the heavier boxes on the bottom. Keep it out of direct sun and off the floor of a hot car. The largest single pickup to date was $4,000, so do not assume a big stack is too much to bring — just protect it on the way.
Do I need a receipt or the original packaging slip?
No receipt is needed. What matters is the sealed retail box itself, the brand, the expiration date, and the condition. Send a photo of the box fronts and dates and that covers everything I need to quote.
How soon after I package everything can I get paid?
Once the quote is set from your photo, pickup is same-day across Worcester County and 25 miles out, with payment at the meetup by cash, Cash App, or Venmo. Surrounding towns are usually within 24 hours, and longer-distance pickups get batched when routes run that way.
